I’m Dreaming of a White Easter

Well, we had the gall to invoke the gods of spring in our last post and they rewarded us by dumping six inches of fresh snow on Berlin. The city just might be in for a white Easter. Rather than hide from it, I donned my snow boots, grabbed my camera, and headed out to Potsdam’s Sanssouci to wander around the palace gardens for the day.

The ponds and streams were frozen over and the side trails were covered in deep powder. The deserted back trails and snow-frosted hedges felt eerily reminiscent of the final scene in The Shining. A bit creepy, but very scenic. We’ve been to Sanssouci a dozen times, but this was definitely a different take on one of greater Berlin’s best attractions.

How odd to get so much snow at this time of year in Berlin! It does look lovely, though!

Odd is an understatement, Sam. This winter just won’t end. They are predicting -15 C on Sunday. I can’t believe it’s almost April. But yes, the palaces were quite pretty – although the street leading to the grocery store near our apartment isn’t quite so attractive. 😉

Global warming is obviously a ruse perpetrated by freedom haters.

      Oh, you jokester!

And for those of you who are less clued in to Laurelle’s humor. Severe cold snaps are very much in line with global warming predictions.

Very pretty b&w photography though ….

Love the photos of Potsdam in winter. I’ve only ever been in summer when it was sweltering hot, but looks like it’s equally pretty with some snowfall. The b/w is great!

For those keeping track, it was indeed a white Easter.
