From Russia with Love
As we settled in for the night on our overnight Komodo cruise, Captain Marasuki passed out four beige blankets and proudly announced with a big smile, “These are good blankets from Russia.” Clearly, he associated Russia with quality bedding. He explained that, on a previous trip to Komodo, Russian tourists had given him these blankets as a gift, claiming they had brought them to Indonesia from Russia.
When I woke up in the morning, I opened my eyes and stared down on an oversized label attached to the blanket. I doubled over laughing and inadvertently woke the others. Oops. Don’t worry, we DID NOT explain to the captain that Emirates was an airlines based in Dubai.
But if you donate a stolen blanket, doesn’t that balance you out karmically?
Hey Tony, i have read pretty much all of your precious info on south east asia and a little bit of india. Even when i have planned my trip almost entirely, i am having a VERY hard time finding a way to get to either dive or snorkel and see dragons on komodo. Would you kindly, if your schedule allows, tell me a little bit about it or point me in the right direction please? Best wishes for you and your partner, and happy holidays.
Hi Esvian, the cheapest way to visit Komodo and Rinca and snorkel the area is on a tour out of Labuanbajo, Flores OR on the budget tour boats between Lombok and Labuanbajo (usually organized in the Gilis off of Lombok). We organized a charter boat with other travelers in Labuanbajo. We have some tips at the very end of the following posts:
Komodo, Diver’s Paradise
The Dragons of Komodo and Rinca
There is also some great snorkeling off the beaches of Seraya and Kanawa both located near Komodo. See the following posts:

Stunning Seraya
Thanks for the quick reply, i appreciate it. I will get to it!
