Rainy Days on Koh Chang

Thomas on Koh Chang

I don’t know what the heck we expected when we headed for Thailand’s second largest island – sunny beaches and crystal-blue waters? Duh! Koh Chang is one of the wettest places in the country AND it’s monsoon. Not the ideal combination for beach bums.

So now, from different vantage points within our bungalow, we are watching sheets of rain pouring out of ominous clouds – and actually liking it. What’s most enjoyable is the cool sea breeze, the soft rumbling of thunder and the flashes of lightning over the mangrove lagoon right outside.

But I guess people on short vacations would disagree. One of the advantages of nomadic life is that weather is generally a non-issue. If it rains, if it snows, if it’s too hot, we just wait it out. Quite a luxury, I have come to realize.

Plus we are coming back to Southeast Asia in the dry season after our trip to the United States, so we’ll get another chance to explore Thailand’s fantastic beaches.
