Exploring Singapore’s Waterfront

We’ve been walking Singapore for days and, without a doubt, our favorite area is the city’s phenomenal, fully revamped waterfront. When I first visited 20 years ago, there was very little in the way of tourist attractions along the water. But after two solid decades of work, the new waterfront steals the show. Beautiful photography of a very strange place. I’m sure my opinion won’t surprise you, but the whole thing just looks sterile and dehumanizing to me. Where’s the human scale? Where’s anything green or growing? You may as well be on a space station with no contact with Earth.

This mini-gallery only shows the super-modern waterfront attractions. Other parts of Singapore, including the nearby colonial district, Little India, and Chinatown are on a much more “human scale.”
I think you would probably like the crazy blend of modern architecture and dock houses on Clarke Quay shown in the forth picture. It’s quirky and fun with kids jumping around in the fountains. It’s a bit Disney, but well intended. And all of it is MUCH more human than the hospital-like 1990 version of Singapore.

I was actually surprised how green Singapore was. Walking through the city, there are tons of beautiful old trees and lots of green spaces. We chose to show the modern waterfront which, unfortunately, didn’t incorporate much greenery.

This makes Singapore very tempting to visit.

btw, make sure to check out the 1-altitude bar. that was my personal highlight in singapore.
